What’s the difference between AVPP, PPC and PPA?

• AVPP

AVPP is the local chapter of Professional Photographers of California (PPC). PPC is the state chapter of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), a national organization. You don’t have to be a member of either PPC or PPA to join AVPP, but joining these groups brings tremendous benefits to you as a professional photographer.

• PPC

Among many other benefits, PPC holds three important yearly events.

1. PPC's state-wide convention, the ProPhoto Expo, in Pasadena provide educational programs, networking opportunities and a vendor's trade show. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Pasadena Expo as it is held in our immediate area.

2. PPC’s West Coast School provides a unique opportunity for a week of concentrated study in many areas of photography once a year.

3. PPC’s annual state–wide print competition affords you the opportunity to enter your images for critical review.

In addition, PPC publishes quarterly its award winning ProPhoto West Magazine. Be sure to visit PPC's website to learn about all the benefits provided by this important state organization for professional photographers.

• PPA

Here are some advantages of joining PPA:

1. PPA holds its annual Imaging USA Convention each year in January. If you want to feel like a kid in a candy store, you will not want to miss out on this all important event.

2. You may participate in PPA's online forum.

3. PPA offers vendor discounts.

4. You may wish to participate in PPA’s Master Photographer and Certified Photographer programs.

5. PPA’s holds an annual international print competition.

6. Belonging to PPA allows you to participate in their insurance programs at group rates for malpractice protection, business and health insurance.

7. Be sure to visit their website to find out the myriad of "happenings" hosted by PPA.

Query: Which organization should I join?

Answer: Join your local organization first to test the waters. After you prove to yourself how beneficial AVPP is to your photographic needs, strongly consider joining the state and national organizations.
